With a slogan of “Relationships Built on Trust,” owner Jack Goisse knew he needed a way to maintain that trust with his customers in light of the ever-increasing sophistication posed by cybercriminals. Jack found CertifID was the best solution to remove fraud risk from wire transfers and help keep his customers safe.

The Challenge

Title agencies around the country are challenged by the cybercriminal landscape that threatens the integrity of every transaction. American Home Title saw this first hand. It was receiving spoofed emails daily and also had a real estate agent partner experience an email account take over that lead to a home buyer receiving fraudulent wiring instructions. That home buyer subsequently sent their down payment money to a fraudulent account.

Candice, a closing manager at American Home Title, described the process that she used before CertifID to try to verify information before wiring money:

• Call the borrowers

• Hope you had the correct phone number

• Verbally verify with someone  

• Hope it was the right someone

This system wasn’t working. It was cumbersome and still left many vulnerabilities.

The Solution

The CertifID Customer Success Team trained Jack and the entire American Home Title Team in just a few days. All users were trained and using the system, immediately preventing wire fraud on all their transactions.

A month after American Home Title partnered with CertifID, CertifID announced their integration with ResWare making the already quick and easy process even more seamless. All information needed to confirm identity was now securely transmitted from ResWare to CertifID. Once an identity is confirmed, CertifID places the confirmation directly back into the ResWare file.

In March of 2019, American Home Title announced a partnership with Churchill Mortgage to create Churchill Title Services. CertifID was able to add this joint venture under American Home Title's existing structure. Administrators at American Home Title were now able to view and monitor transactions sent at Churchill and manage the billing for the joint venture.

The Results

Now Candice says, "CertifID is a much better way to verify and be safe about where we're sending funds." The American Home Title team uses CertifID on every outgoing transaction unless the seller verifies their identity in person and provides a voided check.

Even if the seller is in person and handwrites their information, American Home Title still uses CertifID to verify the information and obtain the added insurance for the wire further protecting the customer and business.

The impact CertifID has had on American Home Title in the first two years has been tremendous, and the numbers speak for themselves.
